An interesting cover letter

Big companies have to process hundreds of resumes and cover letters daily, so how do you make yours stand out?

I saw this off a forum that I frequent (sc2sea.com), apparently this guy was trying to apply to Razer for a job position, and he decided to write a unique cover letter. He got called up for an interview after sending in this cover letter :) Have a look!

(You probably won't get most of it if you're not a gamer, but you should be able to appreciate the gist of it)

En Taro Adun,

I am writing to apply for the position of e-Sports and Content Marketing Specialist within the company. Following in the vein of your mantra, "For Gamers. By Gamers." Let me tell you a little bit more about myself.

I graduated from Murdoch University with a Bachelors of Communications and Media Studies. I believe modules such as Audience Research and New Media has equipped me with the necessary skills for this job. Allow me to level up with you and use this opportunity to add more talent points to my skill tree.

My 6 years battling countless essays and raging exams, both locally and overseas, has allowed me to explore my creativity, sharpen my critical thinking and develop my people skills across a diverse range of cultures. Whilst I have yet to learn how to speak Elvish or how to communicate telepathically with the denizens of Aiur, I strongly believe these skills are sufficiently relevant in today's globalised arena.

Excitement and creativity are important aspects that I place great emphasis on in my work. I am sure you have seen the cliched "excellent team player" in countless cover letters. I am certain though, that playing World of Warcraft for 5 years and taking part in, as well as clearing end-game raid content speaks for itself.

I would love for an opportunity to talk to you and learn more about Razer and the opportunities within the company, and likewise, for you to learn more about me. I sincerely thank you for your consideration and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best,
