Went to Trinity @ Payalebar yesterday , for Sunday service. supposed to meet amanda's leader(s), but apparently cos the schedule was too packed so i only said hi to Sister Qiuyan. meh
It's a pretty charismatic service, with everyone jumping around and stuff. Oh, it was a pure youth service, so worship band everybody were all youths from 13-19 years old. Their band was a full band, with like 3 backup singers. Think 'Hillsong concert' and you'll have the mental image.
They even had like flashing lights and stuff. Like those kind that can change color. and they keep on/off the lights to make this concert effect. I thought this was kinda distracting though. But i guess it adds to the mood.
I liked the sermon!! the pastor speaking was really good, i think his charisma lent alot of weight to what he said, and he was able to capture everyone's attention and gave an interesting message.
I can kinda see why people fall asleep in my church's sermons though :/ Kinda mean to say it, but it's true! I'm not saying that NOONE was sleeping there, (can't really tell the hall so big) , but it would be pretty hard to sleep with such an engaging speaker.
It was about Focus. Like we're all in a race (isaiah something got this verse i think. lazy to go check) , and we have to focus on the endpoint in order to prepare adequately and appropriately and run a good race. Like tell us to have the right attitude and stuff la.

Returned there today (or yesterday. or last year :p) for their Watchnight service. amanda invited me so i go la =)
The band this time was all adult, and they were pretty darn good! the drummer was quite zhai la. was watching him for the first part of worship.. and apparently i was quite obvious in doing that cos amanda said so. ha.
Their transitions were so.. fluid! like movement into one song into another. i dunno how they do it so fluidly. And it's not like the worshipleader doesn't stop to talk. he does. But he seamlessly starts on the next song still.
There were some testimonies shared, then sermon by the senior pastor. I couldnt shrug off the feeling that the testimonies were slightly propagandaish.. but i guess.. it's a good thing? that everyone gives God the glory. but ya they also praise 'the Trinity family' alot. as in the church la. k la i dunno . ignore this paragraph
anw, one interesting point - the service started at 9pm.. but by 815 the whole hall was packed. Then by 850+ or so it was FULL. And their hall is like..3-4 times the capacity of my church's main worship hall. and the aisles were all taken and stuff.
But what struck me was not about the large size of the congregation, but rather the attitude. They are so early! (i quote the speaker - 'dont be kiasu singaporeans, but kiasu christians') Then for our church service start at 830 but people stroll in at 845 -_-
hmmph.
And surprisingly, they had countdown this year!(amanda said they never had countdown, and usually service ended at 1230. this year it ended shortly after the benediction prayer)
this ex-Senior pastor lady gave like a benediction prayer with 1 minute left and she ended just nice 3 seconds before midnight. they had a countdown timer on the screen(s)
(oh they had one big screen in front, 2 bigger screens on the sides, then 2 LCD widescreen TVs for those closer. rich :/ )
So happy, got to spend the 1st second of the new year with the one i love =)
Then after service amanda's parents sent me home :/ i kept telling them to drop me off on the mainroad and i can walk in but they insisted on sending me home all the way. so nice :) i was quite tense in the car though. ha. then amanda poke me halfway and mouthed the word 'relax'

2 weeks
that's all the time i have left as a civilian before i get shipped off to defend this tinyislandofacountry. before i get my head shaved, before i start to subject my body to daily rigorous activity, before my life becomes a 2day week.
I don't dread the head shaving part. In fact that's the least of my concerns. There are so many perks! no need to style hair(or attempt to) anymore, no need comb, no need shampoo, more cooling. It just needs getting used to , which is the same for all haircuts.
It'll probably take awhile to get used to the daily exercise. I get aches after exercise (the day after) So.. having to exercise through the aches will be a .... refreshing experience =x
And come out only during weekends!!!? argh. i'll miss someone. :/

christmas
ah.
the caroling thing wasn't that bad after all. though the games part was highly messy IMO. forfeits took up too much time and were.. kinda boring . should have more games.
wow ok im damn whiny and complaining bestie was right. well i guess the organisers should be complimented for their effort put in. at least they tried right?
overall was pretty good la. i'm just glad amanda had fun =)
thanks to all those people who came to talk to her ! raylia especially. though she talked alot of nonsense too.

oh where is the christmas spirit
this christmas, i find it hard to say 'merry christmas' and mean it. well, at least for today.
christmas seemed to zoom up so quickly, like i only realised it was coming a week ago. and.. i didn't feel any of the hype of previous years. didn't even consider getting presents or anything.
why?
1) something else on my mind
2) no christmas service in church!
Every year there'll be a christmas service where there'll be a nice speaker who comes in and gives the christmas msg and everyone is dressed up nice and we go carolling after that and whee fun fun.
This year.. no christmas service! gg! bay christmas party on sunday? the variety of food was quite.. little. chicken wing and the triangle thing. =X what's a party without (alot of) food?
well ok there is carolling tomorrow, but it's not the same when it's not after service. AND, it's sooo last minute and there seems to be no organisation at all. no musician, no song sheet... whaaat. i wonder how it's gonna turn out.

a metaphorical story (5)

The whistle blows for a timeout, as the players jog over to the bench for a timeout.
'Alright guys listen up, we're down by one point and this is very possibly the last possession of the game! Adam is our best player, so we'll run this play through him!' - Coach says.
"Certainly coach!" replies Adam. "I'll cut through the defenders and do a layup!"
'A layup? No no, cmon man, a layup is weak and has no oomph. Do a slamdunk instead!'
" A slamdunk? nah, that's too risky. I've never done it before in a competitive match!"
'Seriously Adam, if you want the publicity and the OOOH of the crowd, you have to go for a slamdunk! Otherwise the crowd won't appreciate you!'
"Well... i've already practised my layup countless number of times. I guess i may try to go for a slamdunk if i have the chance"

the game resumes. Adam's team executes a fine play which gets Adam the open lane to go for the basket. He jumps in the air...
and opts for the layup, as he didn't jump as high as he should. The ball swooshes through the hoop.
And the crowd went wild! now Adam's team was one point ahead! They chanted Adam's name.
Now, the clock read 24 seconds. That was an entire possession left for the other team to score.

bored
these days, very little seems to interest me. my attention span has dropped alot. i get bored after doing any particular thing very quickly. besides playing basketball and mahjong.
ah yes i seem to looove mahjong now for some reason. maybe it's the satisfaction when you win big and you collect your chips. maybe it's the eager anticipation when you're building up a big hand. i dunno. it's addictive.
i used to love horror shows, but now i find them slightly boring sometimes. unless the plot is good,which is rare for horror shows. my favourite movie genre is now action/thriller! shows like the bourne ultimatum, casino royale just attract me like bees to honey ^^
and shows that make you think a little bit to piece things together are also niiiice. like i just watched Deja vu, a pretty darn smart show. Was pretty cool to see how everything fell into place in the 2nd half of the show.
(The show is basically about this terrorist who bombed a ship and murdered a girl, and the main character cop guy investigates this, and travels back in time to save the girl.
This is really in a nutshell, you have to watch the show to appreciate it. Certain things (very minor) happen in the first half, and in the 2nd half (when he travels back in time) you see how neatly they fall into place that it's really cool!
ok go watch yea.
i would gladly prefer going out of the house with friends than to stay at home and watch shows/play games the whole day. gladly! but .. noone seems to be doing anything.
meh, i wish my class was as fun as s07. they all got christmas party somemore!! (i'm friends with 90% of their class) walao. mine got nothing one. and i dont feel particularly bonded to them to organise anything.

after tomorrow. or monday. whichever day i confess and get rejected.

rubik's!
heh 2 days ago i started playing with rubik's cube! i had actually wanted to learn it during A levels, but i scared if i go memorize the algorithms and stuff i'll forget what i study. so i postponed it till...last sunday!
Then on sunday on impulse i went to PS at like 945pm.. but the shops were all closing, and Comics Connection was closed already -_- (i heard they sell the cube)
The next day i went again, and found out they didnt have. zz. so had to go all the way to toysRus @ vivo.
Heh i thought i'd have to ask the staff where to find the cube, since Toysrus is like kinda big.. but you must be kinda blind to not find it. Right when you step in you see this big shelf with giant rubiks cube models on the top. Then there's an ENTIRE shelf just filled with cubes. Then if you're really damn stupid there's even a TV screen there showing videos of people doing the cube.
tahdah, purchased my own cube @ $11.95.
yes quite ex. but .. oh well.
so i've been practising to solve as fast as possible (using the layer by layer technique. those world records that you see, 9 seconds blabla, they use speed-cubing technique, very different from layerbylayer. alot alot chimmer)
and last night, i got my fastest ever time of 1:53!
was a super lucky attempt, when after i did the 3rd last step everything was in place already so i essentially skipped 2 steps .the video quality sucks cos it's at night and it was with my lousy HP camera. yes i know i turned kinda slow, still new ma. now i can turn quite smoothly le.

went to 'jam' today at joshsam's house, but it turned out very unproductive. half the time was spent on ppl who wanted to learn drums (amanda/alicia/paul) and another half on going through songs and listening to them. Well, we did play ONE song. Now That You're Near - Hillsong United
so sian la! next time must reallllly jam.
but at least after that it was productive - me joshsam paul went gym! i ran like 20 minutes (3km) on the treadmill. yes i know that's kinda slow, but i was going for more of duration to train endurance rather than speed. Then after doing some weights i ran another 5 minutes and covered about 800m? around there. (slightly faster speed the 2nd time , just for kicks)
i gotta exercise more!! ggrawl. must be fit fit for army. who wanna go exercise with me. basketball. soccer. sports ftw. ok fine run also can.
gonna confess next week, gg. can't wait.

gr, still waiting for 2 people to send me prom pictures then the prom post will be ready.
anw, yesterday i went for a PB marathon (more of a half-marathon) @ amanda's house. Some of them had to leave earlier cos they were going for some concert... and i have to say i enjoyed myself better after they left.
Not because i didn't like them or anything! but because after they left was just me melly and manda, and more cosy ma cos less people. Then melly was quite funny, keep on asking like 'oh no will that person die' and 'oh no then what happens next!!!?' I think if she watches alone she'll just die from suspense.
Anyway i was quite disappointed overall cos the original plan was to watch finish season 1 in 2 days, then i found out yesterday that today's marathon was cancelled cos manda had to go somewhere. :/ and yday's one was only like 7 episodes.
after the marathon i visited church for awhile, they were having camp. so many people came to talk to me, yay. :p meh hope my mei is ok, she was like having fever or something and looked quite lethargic.
wow worship was quite .. awesome. There was this new guy who went up to share and was quite choked up and stuff. He had this american accent too, and kept using the word 'awesome' so it sounded quite funny. but quite touching la, him being new and all and being touched by God through the people in camp.
me dan benc graham went prata at thompson after that! i ordered my mushroom cheese again but it wasn't very nice this time leh, cold cold one. But i like the taste of the prata dough. It's like.. got this slightly sweet taste and very tasty. haha the bomb is damn shiok, just oodles and oodles of BUTTER. unhealthyness ftw.
mahjong after that at twin's place was sucky. lost overall, never won any big win though i kept buliding big for most of the game.
rawr i want the rest of the prom pics!! cmon peiwen and amandaa.
anw, yesterday i went for a PB marathon (more of a half-marathon) @ amanda's house. Some of them had to leave earlier cos they were going for some concert... and i have to say i enjoyed myself better after they left.
Not because i didn't like them or anything! but because after they left was just me melly and manda, and more cosy ma cos less people. Then melly was quite funny, keep on asking like 'oh no will that person die' and 'oh no then what happens next!!!?' I think if she watches alone she'll just die from suspense.

after prom
meh, 95% of my blogreaders are in camp right now, dunno why i'm still blogging. oh well.
gah. it's after prom and i'm sitting at home at 1.45am. not clubbing! ah. decided not go cos i'm guai. sigh. i wish _____ _____ ____
lalala go figure.
Prom was average la. quite fortunate that i could even go, lucky s07 nice enough to let me intrude on their table. my class so lousy, noone go besides me and john (he at his allgirls table)
programme wasnt thaaat interesting. band was average.
i like those bands that play a song then in the middle have the solo part for everyone. like guitar solo.. then keys solo, then drum solo. Wa those shiok man. this one had one song had short keys solos that were quite cute. otherwise, just average. lead singer's voice wasn't powerful enough to carry the band though it's not bad.
promkingqueen segment was pretty disturbing with hongheng and some clubber girl grinding each other when they were supposed to dance to the random music.
took quite a few pictures, but will probably take quite a while for me to get all of them. so .. ill wait till i get most before spamming all.
Oh oh, before prom i met lijian and john to go hairdresser! first time in my life ok! cos all along i cut at barber, cheaper ma. and lazy to go hairdresser. So i went to klearcut @ fareastplaza.
Quite good sia , they give some tea while ure waiting. cut+wash+blowdry+style = $27 bucks. i think student 10% discount. cheap right! (i mean for a hairdresser. barber = 7 bucks ha)
Wa the wash damn shiok, the guy who did for me quite skill like massage my head also. almost fell asleep when he shampooing.
ok here's some preliminary pics that i have. just post bah.
wooo styled hair. i seriously have no idea how to replicate this next time. so i'm very reluctant to shower cos.. my styled hair will be gone! ah. must ask candice to teach
me and lijian
ok i look weird in this, i was trying to tilt my head lower so that can see my hair. I have a tendency to tilt my head upwards when taking photos, dunno why.

lijian made us take one. but we got take photos on our own la. on her camera must wait for her to send me.

little boy
mmm. ppl asking me why i didn't go church today, ill explain heree. Last night i was feeling pretty damn sick. like runny nose and then my head was just dizzy. i slept at 8pm after taking some runnynose tablet. Smsed ivin to tell him i was sleeping in (i was supposed to play drums)
woke up at 10am!!
wahahha. 14 hours of sleep! naturally felt weird after that, like more lethargic than usual (try sleeping for a long stretch, you'll feel the same) So decided to skip church since it was rather late. but i asked dan if they were doing anything later to ask me. and they did!
we played mahjong, me daniel dom and szewei.
Ok at his house we always play mj at this usual spot, and so we naturally form .. stereotypes with the seats. like certain seats bring more luck, some less luck. WHICH IS TRUE OK. i'm serious.
Like there's this seat which darryl sat and he lost like crazy. then since then that seat has been cursed as 'the darryl seat'. anyone who sits there will lose. serious. Like the prev time dan sat there then he was the biggest loser. Then cheryl sat there ok fine she won quite abit, but she had damn bad luck the first few rounds.
Then today dom sat there, he naturally was the biggest loser since it was the lousy seat.
Then of course there's the 'lucky seat'. last time pewi sat then he biggest winner.then dan sat there and biggest winner. and today i sat there!
i think i won the most number of times. but mainly 2-3 dai wins. But daniel/szewei won several big wins, 5-6 dai (we played no maximum) , so i wasn't really winning as the last round approached.
(in mj, one 5-6 dai win is much more than three to four 2-3 dai wins.)And the funny thing about today was there were at least 5-6 attempts at shi shan yao, which is quite rare. (usually 1-2 per game) mainly by me and szewei ha.
AND AND. so i wasnt winning much, no big win at all. Then came the last and final round of the entire game. so .. it's win big now or never. and i won!!! it was super big somemore! was a full colour (BALLS) (i usually half/full colour bamboo for some weird reason) and i had 2 dai from my flowers. so 6 dai. AND ZHI MO!! $6.40 everybody KTNXBAI.
wahahha. so i was the richest just because of that big win.
after that me benc dan szewei went to eat at crazy angmoh @ bishan. i dont see what's the big fuss, i ordered fish and chips and they tasted pretty darn normal. i prefer Botak jones, the cajun fries =D
Wow ok i digressed so much from what i wanted to blog about initially (refer to title)
ok on my way to dan's house, i went to kovan market to eat lunch. so i was queuing up at the stall when this small boy suddenly came up to me. he was like.. 6? 7 years old?
He's SUPER CUTE!! he's like the kinda kid i'll play with if i helped out at some kids camp.
And come to think of it, he looked kinda familiar. maybe i saw him at some kids camp before.
Anyway, he asked me: 'can you help me call my father?'
?? ok look of confusion from me. he was like at my waist so i had to bend over to hear him.
'my father say he go wash hand, but he go very long already -- ' his voice trails off here, giving the super pitiful awwyoupoorthing kinda feeling.
so being the friendly approachable korkor i am ( HA. :p ) i sat down on a chair so that i was around his height (i squatted down at first but was damn weird cos i was in the middle of nowhere so i went to the chair) and tried asking him for more details.
Then he said he knew his dad's number. so ok, i asked him for it as i fished out my handphone. being naturally cautious (with my mom reminding me of swindlers everyday), i held on to my phone and asked him for the number.
But he never even made any attempt to take the phone la, cos he was busy trying to remember his dad's number. SUPER CUTE OK. he was like looking up with his brow furrowed trying to remember. i had the urge to take a photo of him or sth.
then he started on the number:
'Nine.....'
i press the number encouragingly on my handphone.
then he says 'my father got 3 numbers leh'
!! his father some bigshot towkay or something why got 3 numbers.
so i tried to get him to choose one. so he picked the hp number apparently.
'nine.. eight.. two.. four.. '
-funny expression-
'seven .. ' (and he says the rest of the numbers. i dont put here so dont reveal the number la)
But when i called it his father's phone was off! aiyo. so i thought for awhile, then ask him for his house number.
however, he couldnt remember it. (he's so small! he can remember hp number quite impressive already)
was quite funny when i asked him about his house phone:
"Can you remember your house phone number?"
'what?'
"Your home telephone number, can remember?"
-look of confusion-
(i'm telling you he's an adorable little kid. like the kinda very shy type.)
"Your house got telephone right, you know the number?"'OH YES!' he exclaims. I sit up and brandish my HP, preparing to dial.
"So what's the number?"
'oh, i dunno ' =( (sad face)
LOL
this point was damn funny la! he was answering my first question, that he had a phone at home. so he exclaimed in like.. sudden enlightenment. Then when i asked for the number, it's like it dawned on him he got the 'wrong answer', so his face drooped and he looked sad.
it's so hard to describe! but it's very comical. =D
So i asked him more stuff, like where he lived, if he lived nearby, where exactly did his dad go, of which he couldnt give me a precise answer. Found out he lived in tampines (which is pretty far away ) so i couldnt bring him home. And i had no idea if his dad went into heartlandmall (if he did can ask the counter guy to make announcement)
So after asking for his house number, i asked for his mother's hp number. and he claimed he could remember it. ok so i waited to dial.
'nine.. eight.. two.. four.. '
At this point i realised the first 4 numbers were the same as his father's number, so i thought it was one of those buy the plan together then the numbers differ by one kind.
So i was getting worried that he was just recalling his father's number instead and got it mixed up.
At this point, his father returned and the little boy ran over and held on to his father's hand.
'where you go' whines the little boy.
"i told you i go wash hand ma" says the stupid dad.
and the little boy mumbles something but you can see that he was just happy his dad was back.
And the dad never even thank me or anything! he didnt even LOOK at me. he must have thought i was some kidnapper trying to kidnap his precious son. helllo mister, i just helped look after your small little 6 year old boy when you irresponsibly left him alone for so long in such an unsafe place (kovan market, relatively crowded. would probably have been very easy to kidnap him)
~~ahh ok that ends my lost-little-boy drama. i always had daydreams like this, just that in my daydreams it would be some pretty sister that leaves the boy somewhere then i return the boy and i go out with the sister and we live happily ever after. HA.
okok. time to go watch more Psych. cya.

Psych
PSYCH IS A DAMN GOOD SHOW!!
was recently introduced to this by daniel, and i totally totally love it.
It's basically about this guy Shaun who has a special ability to be extra observant. Like when he walks into a bar he knows how many people are wearing hats, what hats they are, what's dish was on the first table,etd. So he uses this ability to tip-off the police about crimes.
Then one day the police suspected him of being the mastermind or something, since how can anyone help solve SO MANY crimes. Then he pretends to be a psychic.. like going into a trance and stuff, and with his super-observant-skills he makes very accurate 'predictions'.
So since then he has been helping the police solve crimes, though one detective in the police force doesn't really like him or believe he is really psychic. This bickering relationship is really funny =)
It's damn funny! the acting of the lead is funny, and his sidekick who's more serious and doesn't wanna get into trouble adds to the humor. And it's pretty darn cool to see how shaun observes everything.
Think of it as a oneman-CSI without all the forensic mambojumbo, + 200% humour + better looking cast. :p
