review on sony ericsson c902

ah, so after about one week of using my brand new sony ericsson c902, it's time to do a short review on it! to let people know what it's like la. i mean, it IS one of the latest phones ( i had no idea until after i bought it) so i suppose people wanna know if it's good.

I'll classify it under several categories:

Useability - Its keypad is one of the easier to use in the Sony Ericsson series, though not entirely easy to press. The keys are pretty small and compact, so mispressing buttons is very common. The keys in general are easy to depress, so not much complaints here.

The phone lags though, but apparently that's what i heard is the case for most of the newer phones. For example, let's say i wanna send a message to cheryl. Then i press '3, 4' for C and H right? The phone takes like 0.5-1 seconds to reach cheryl's name.. like it's slowly processing the 3,4 button presses.

But the lag isn't THAT bad or significant in normal usage.. like navigating the menu and stuff. No lag there. Most lag occurs in the messaging and contacts list.

Appearance - One of the more stylish looking phones! i mean hey, how can you deny that this looks SO sexy?

=) =)

It's very lightweight, slim, classy black.. what more can you ask for?

The hidden slide-out camera is what impresses most though.. only 1 in 5 people i tested managed to find the camera within 5 minutes :p

Functionability (is there such a word) - doesn't boast a myriad of functions, but hey, it isn't the latest smart phone. Has the S.E. trademarks like MusicDJ, PhotoDJ, VideoDJ.. and there's voicerecorder, bluetooth, music player
No wifi though. :( that's the only sad thing.

The Music player is pretty decent, its maximum volume is enough to be heard CLEARLY (not like those scrappy older phones which just blasts loud but not very audible music) in say, a bus. It features creating playlists, favourites, etc.

And of course, the function that defines the C902 - the 5 megapixel Cybershot camera.

What can i say? it's practically a camera in terms of its functions and all. You can adjust the lighting (before taking the photo) to completely change a photo without usage of flash or anything.

First pic is the original. 2nd one i lowered the brightness setting to the lowest, 3rd one i raised it to the highest.
And the next 2 are just 2 other modes.. twilight landscape and snow/rain. no idea what it's for. probably different lighting? difference is quite subtle. i included the original first for comparison.

Then there's the macro function

ok no not this. this is just a random pic at thompson prata house.. their milo dinosaur is a freaking baby dinosaur can? so small! its' the same size cup as a normal drinks cup!

Ok lemme show u the macro/withoutmacro one. Ill make the pictures bigger so that you can see the difference:

With Macro:

You can see the texture of the prata so much better right!

Then there's the different modes it offers.. twilight landscape.. snow.. beach.. sports.. document. No idea what the diff modes mean. I experimented with the Sports mode today:

I think what Sports mode does is eliminate as much of the blur you will usually get when you take a picture of someone moving (e.g. playing sports)

So it DOES work =) haha.

Oh, and the phone also has this 'Photo Fix' function which , well, fixes photos. What it does is improve the lighting to what it thinks is optimal. It really works! check out these 2 pics:

The original. Too bright, i adjusted the lighting too high for this.

After Photo Fix
not bad eh!

The Video camera is also very sharp (5 megapixel lor. but on youtube obviously it doesnt look as clear) and the sound pick up is.. okok la. Here's a random video i recorded of me playing some song which i dunno the title of. it's very short, and not very good or anything, was just testing the video record function.

Extras - There's some sort of orientation sensor in the phone. For instance, in the Media menu (and only in the media menu , sadly :( ), when i look at it normally it's vertical.. but if i rotate the phone anticlockwise and look at it horizontally, the display automatically switches to the horizontal display. pretty cool =)
This sensor is shown also in one the games, Need for Speed. Steering is done entirely by tilting the phone accordingly.. pretty darn cool.

Yupyup! so that's my review on the phone.. if you want a phone with a good camera, THIS is the phone to get. not those other Samsungomnia or htc touch or whatever. get this ! =D
