i hate sleep

I think sleep is a waste of time.

The average person sleeps 7 hours every day, and that's 49 hours in a week, 210 in a month, about 2400 hours in a year. That's about 100 days worth. We lose 100 freaking days every year  because we have to sleep.

So effectively, every 3 years of your life, you lose one year! So if you are 21 years old, you are actually 14. You lost 7 years in sleeping time.

I find myself dreading sleep sometimes. Well, not dreading REST, that's different. If we are exhausted and need rest, we will look forward to sleep. But when we are NOT exhausted/tired, and we are just doing stuff or looking forward to the next day, the thought of having to go to bed 'because it's late' is just so annoying.

And we can't NOT do it because we will feel really tired if we fall short of our sleep requirement.

Can you imagine if we had a biological button that we could push that switches us off and on again, fully recharged, xx hours later? That would be awesome wouldn't it. Better yet, what if we had some neurological dysfunction that causes us to not sleep yet be able to recharge our energy.

I also wish we could teleport. Transport is yet another time waster in life. I spend about 2.5 hours a day travelling when I go to school. Assuming I go to school 5 days a week, that's 12.5 hours a week, and about 600 hours a year wasted. That's 30 days a year spent travelling! (I'm doing all this arithmetic via rough mental estimations, so if you want to double check you can use a calculator)

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could just blink and reach home? Blink and go to school? Sure, the SBS would be out of job. But they are terribad anyway. Go to Twitter and search #SBSruinslives and find all the complains.

Wow this was such a disjointed random rambling post. I think I'm still doozy from inhaling BBQ smoke from huijun's 21st. I reached there, had a plate of fried rice and spent the rest of my time standing at the BBQ pit. Mostly girls and all the slack imagirlicantBBQilldirtymynails type. Oh well. I don't really mind.

The problem with saying 'wanna sub?' to the person at the BBQ pit is that you never know who's going to say 'wanna sub' to you after you take over. It may be never. I think if I ever had the craziness to have a BBQ ( i won't, i hate them. It's conceptually flawed because your friends have to BBQ and it's a wearisome job and someone ends up suffering) I will draw up a rotation shift for the BBQ pit.

Ok I think I will stop. Right here. Right now. Is that some HSM song? oh dear. I shall end.

pre-Semester 2 Module Review 10/11

As a precursor to my midterm/afterfinals review of my modules, I thought it'll be good to have an 'initial thoughts' thing about my modules for this semester.

So for this sem, Semester 2 of AY10/11, the modules I am taking are:
PH2110 - Logic (a philosophy module)
PL2132 - Research and Statistical Methods 2
PL3232 - Biological Psychology
PL3235 - Social Psychology
SSB2216 - Employee Management in Singapore

Read on after the page break for my short breakdown of each module and why I'm taking it.

PL3232 - Bio Psych
One of my 5 core modules for Psych (i.e. compulsory) , and because the girlfriend wanted to clear it while she still has her A level bio knowledge in mind, I decided to take it as well this semester.
One of my most dreaded core modules, because I just don't really like Biology, and this branch of Psychology is probably my least favourite one. Already read through the first lecture's lecture slides and already dreading it. Hope I can get at least a B+ for this mod :(

PL3235 - Social Psych
Another core mod which I have to clear eventually, so might as well take it. Sounds the most interesting among all the core mods (aside from Abnormal Psych) and supposedly the most slack one too. We'll see. Hope to get an A.

PL2132 - Stats 2
A follow-up from Stats 1, also a compulsory core mod. REALLY dread the readings for this mod, because it sounds ridiculous. There are THREE textbooks for it. And we're supposed to read 15 chapters within the first 2 weeks. Is that even humanly possible? Hope to get at least a B+ as well.

SSB2216 - Employee Management in Singapore
All NUS students have to clear a Singapore Studies mod, and since the rest of them sound like History mods to me, this mod sounds the most interesting and relevant. Only abit worried because there is high emphasis on class participation and the project is a pretty big part of the module. Bad groupmates = fail.
Hope to get a B+ at least, may S/U if it's B- or below. If I get a B... will be conflicted :/

PH2110 - Logic
A last minute entry, though I actually DID consider this mod initially but switched it for NM2220 - Writing in New Media because I love writing and Candice was taking that as well so I thought I could do it with her.
However, in the very first round which I could bid for it, the bid points quickly went up to 700+, eventually going for 1000+ (lowest successful bid), so I didn't get it.
At the same time, while looking for an alternative, I came across the IVLE info for PH2110, and the textbook was available as an e-book so I decided to take a quick glance through - and was hooked. line and sinker. SO INTERESTING.
I think I will definitely like this mod, it's just a question of whether I can score for it. A- I hope?

If I hit all my goals - A- B+ B+  A B+ - CAP = 4 4 4 5 4.5 /5 = 4.3
Oh well, decent. Wish me luck.

2011 Resolutions

Alright been wanting to do this for awhile but kept putting it off. Had it all written out in my head already, just have to transfer it to this blog haha.

Before that, one quick announcement -

I SOLD MY IPOD TOUCH.
So long, my friend

Very sad k, got sentimental value. And monetary value of course, of  $280! Which is pretty decent I guess for a secondhand. :/ (O.P. $336 i think) But very sad to part with it la, cos it's a gift from pewi. BUT, think of it this way - it's like he's getting me an iPhone! yea.

I posted my ad up on Monday afternoon, by Monday evening I got an offer for $270 already. I negotiated it up to $280 and the buyer arranged to meet me.. and within the next 24 hours I got another 3-4 offers! Wth. HWZ is full of buyers.
But yea, 280 was about the best I could get so I just sold it for that. Now, waiting till Feb 3rd till I can recontract and get my IPHONE4.

Hope something weird happens and the price somehow drops. 16 or 32GB though?

OK sorry for the slight digression, on to my 2011 resolutions!

1) SAVE MONEY ON FOOD
Like really, I spend like mad for a person as poor as me. My biggest expenditure is FOOD. I can't resist a good meal! Guh. I used to be very thrifty on food k, always eat cai fan, $2.30-$2.70 per meal only. But in the recent years I would happily have meals that were in the $10-20 price range. Which is not good!

I want to go for exchange in Year 3, that requires a shitloads of money already. And not to mention... I'm not a rich kid. I need to save save save. So this year, I aim to spend less on food!

I would write 'I need to save money in general' but then I just said I'm going to buy an iPhone so that is highly contradictory so... lol. Baby steps yea? Food first. =X

2) AS HIGH CAP AS POSSIBLE 5 PLEASE
One of my dreams before the previous semester of uni was to get into Dean's List, which is like the top 2% or 5% of your faculty. With a CAP of 4.4, I don't think this is possible. I need a 5 this sem! Which is like mad.. but... we'll see how things go :(

Going to work harder than last sem I hope. Less Starcraft2, less slacking, more mugging.

~~~
Wow ok I think that is it. lolol. There are some others but they aren't really strong enough convictions to want to define as a resolution. So I guess that's that, and I will see you guyssss next time!
