you can't call for help if you don't have a pass

I dare not say where i took these photos, in case there's some confidentiality thing that i'm not aware off and i cannot anyhow take photos of this place.

Well, you just have to know it's a lift in an office building. I just found this rather ... interesting.

We were coming back from lunch and taking the lift up, so i asked, 'hmm, i wonder what this does'



(if there WAS some kinda confidentiality thing i'm screwed then the CCTV would have caught me taking a pic of this haha)

Anyway above the lift buttons there is this white box which is obviously a card swiper. (maybe there's a better name like.. card reader. Access Restrictor. ynkow)
It is used basically in every kinda of secure office building? So that only workers with a pass can get past these access points.

The thing is, why is there one in the lift? It certainly isn't to restrict access, since you can press the buttons without swiping any card.

Our conclusion was that.. swiping the card allowed you to call for help? Like to the security room or something so you can go 'HELP I'M STUCK IN THE LIFT' or something.
Maybe it's a subtle message to workers to keep their passes on them at all times.
I can imagine an advertising campaign for this:

This campaign aims to reduce the use of technology and improve the amount of quality sleep we get each day.

The Geek and N97 mini

I just got a new phone! Like just, on wednesday.

Ugh i can't find other nicer pics.. and obviously i can't take a photo of it since i have no camera.

It's mad chio can!! i love the design and how the phone is like. Very sleek, thin, relatively light ( i think, for a smart phone) and the slide out keyboard is just freaking cool. I just like it!
It also has a 5MP Carl Zeiss lens.
The bad thing is, it's very pricey!! Cost me 598bucks with plan :S super broke now. sigh.

Well besides all the smartphone functions like wifi blabla, it has some nifty 'hidden' features that you may not even know. Like there's a proximity sensor on the phone that when ure talking on the phone, the screen is locked. So that your face wont go and press the buttons.
Then when you receive a msg, the button on the bottom left flashes so you know. cool stuff!

The bad thing is the battery life sucks! If i use it to purely msg and make occasional calls, it can last maybe 2 days? under 48 hours. But if i use stuff like camera, watch videos, wifi, it lasts only about 24 hours before it's low :S

And the camera flash thing is very annoying! even when flash is off, the bright xenon light still lights up very glaringly before every photo is taken.. so it's hard to take zilian photos! like cos you'll be blinded in the first few seconds and can't see the camera properly. not that i take zilian photos.

i really dont!

anyway, went for becky's 21st party yday! The theme was GEEK. lol. i dragged bestie along cos i don't know any of becky's friends, so i would be very lonely if i went alone. which proved to be true, lucky i had chris with me.
