a rant on =)

=) =)
hi hello. ^^ im blogging and writing a bunch of lovely things =) haha. and so today i played basketball in school after school was over, was so fun! =D played with pewi and some people whom i dont really know.. but was fun cos I made some nice qies and bursts. But it's like qie past some girls sometimes. So.. nvm la still nice qie =D :) hahaha. lol. i'm happyy.

~~~
Ok how did you feel when you read the above paragraph. Or rather, how did you think i felt? happy? why? cos i said 'i'm happy'? cos i put a ton of smiley faces ?
Well i dont exactly feel entirely happy, basketball was just average cos everyone like slack slack and it was with girls so more like.. play for fun not intense one. And i had a reason to be super duper upset last night, but glad i resolved it by talking to the person. I'm feeling neutral now in fact, but because of all the smiley faces and stuff, i believe i made you think i was happy for a sec.
That's the fallacy of technology isn't it? When we sms each other and see our .. smsee reply with a smiley face and a 'lol', we naturally assume the person is in a good mood. just last night that person i was talking to , i'm pretty sure the person felt terrible, but the message went something like 'don't fret about it, i'm ok you know :) '
It looks so deceptively normal and happy, but i know for sure that the person couldnt have been happy.
Smiley faces and internet acronyms have proliferated as a disguise, a mask for unhappiness. When we go 'lol', are we really Laughing Out Loud? (for the record, i do overuse 'lol' sometimes, but when i really do laugh out loud i type 'LOL'. :p )
When we put a smiley face, are we really smiling? Or has it became a sort of punctuation in our messages. Or are we trying to sound more friendly?
Perhaps we're replacing that fake smile we always sport with this ':)' in our messages.
Gah, that's why when i'm talking about something personal or serious i'd rather talk face to face. Even over the phone, it's kinda hard to detect voice changes, facial expression changes (i wanna take psychology next time :p ) , behavioural changes. (sociology sounds quite interesting too)
Do you know that your pupils dilate when you're interested about something?
Do you know that your pupils roll up and to the left/right ever so slightly when you're lying/talking about something related to your heart (e.g. girl you like, etc)
(This gets even more obvious to spot when the other person KNOWS about this, and deliberately fixates his gaze on you or doesnt establish eye contact)
imagine an MSN conversation going between two people who hate each other:
(brackets are the person's thoughts)
Guy A : hey there! :)
Guy B: oh hi!! (dammit why this idiot msging me)
Guy A: i like the shirt you wore today! nice sia. haha. (ugly thrash actually, but i need to get him to help out at the party so.. must suck up abit)
Guy B: heh thanks, my friend bought for me one. =D (as if you like it)
Guy A: lol. good taste sia ur fren. (lalala... abit more idle chat.. and i'll ask him)
Guy B: =) (zz can he stop talking to me)
Guy A: eh can you help out at the school party this Friday? (cmon say yes you idiot)
Guy B: oh.. i should be free. Sure! :) (DAMMIT. i should've appeared offline. i can't say no cos this bastard will go spread to other people if i do. zzz. sian. There goes my friday)
Guy A: awesome! ok cya then! (hope i dont see you at all actually -_- )
Guy B: np! (yea no problem for screwing me you idiot)
SEE HOW FAKE WE HAVE BECOME!!!
seriously, they should put a cap on the number of smiley faces you can type in 1 minute, as well as the number of 'haha's and 'lol's. Sms lengths will cut by half, MSN conversations will get shorter by 1/3, and... life will be so much more real.
Good day :) :)
  1. yes, what you have just typed, everything. i so agree. that was why i too,also want to take and learn psychology. how the mind works etc. so true lol. its like many of us have started to put smiley faces and lols as punctuations. not our heart felt words. -claps- for what u wrote.
