[Dream] The Dystopian Society

I can't remember the exact starting point of the dream (as in all dreams, as nicely pointed out in Inception), but I was in a deserted place with deserted roads. I mention this because I knew what my purpose was there, despite not remembering when it started.

I was trying to get out of the deserted place, but I couldn't find a cab. I walked and walked, and came across an old, abandoned house. To my surprise, I saw 3 people stumble out, all covered with dirt from head to toe, their frames rugged and gaunt. One of them was my secondary school friend, B.

Right on cue, two taxis arrived. I was about to get into the back taxi with 2 of the other people, but decided to board the one with B. When I got in and the taxi drove off, I began asking him what happened, but the look in his eyes made me stop. 'I have gone through ... so much,' he croaked weakly.

I somehow understood this as a mystery higher organization had done this, and it was not my place to ask, nor did I really want to know what abuse he went through.

After driving for a while, I asked the cabbie: "So are you going to Potong Pasir (B's house) first or Boon Keng (mine)?"
He casually replied: "What makes you think we are going to your homes..."

My blood froze. I realized the taxi was not a place of refuge, and it was not taking me to safety. It was taking me to them. The organization. Whatever it was. I had to escape. I did not want to go through the abuse that B went through.

After observing traffic for a while, I found the opportune time and opened the door and dived out of the moving vehicle. I rolled to the side of the road, and began running. I ran for several minutes, and quickly flagged another cab that I saw.

As I got in, I began to say "Uncle, to -"
He cut me off with a grin: "to Boon Keng, -my address- right? I know..."

SHIT. He was part of this too! He knew exactly who I was, and where I had come from.

"You need to go another 2km to get out of the area we are in control of, boy", he laughed.

I resigned to my fate. If they had control over everything within a 2km radius, there was no way I was getting away if they wanted to catch me.

--

I was in a room with B, and some unknown individuals. This part of the dream got a bit fuzzy, as I think I was approaching the waking phase of my sleep cycle. From what I can remember, I wasn't tortured or anything. In fact, they explained to me how the organization functioned.

"From when you [he was referring to everyone in that world I think] are born, we will observe you. We will make circumstances occur for you. You think you got your job by your own merit? No, we arranged for it. Some people are meant to suffer -he glances over to B-, some, like you, are meant to succeed. Everything is decided by the organization. "

I recall being confused. Why was I earmarked for success? How did they decide what happened to who? How did they carry out their decisions? I had no idea, and would not receive any answers to these questions, as I woke up shortly after.

[Dreams] 2.4km, Winter, and the Epic Bunny Cat Fight

I was running practice laps for 2.4km, as if warming up for it. I was in my jeans. Then I started it and somehow I ran the first round in the wrong direction then I was forced to do it again
I went off.. to change into shorts, because well, its easier to run in shorts. But after I had changed... it was too late! The timing to take 2.4 was over. Zzz
Cut to next scene.. I was with my gf on a bus which somehow brought us from SG to Japan during winter. I had neglected to put on my winter wear and they were all in my luggage which was stowed in the baggage compartment below the bus.
I realized that I would have to be in my normal clothes for a good ten mins or sth before we could get our luggage when we alighted :(
When we got off, we entered a building and were waiting around for something
Then I saw the most epic thing in my life... (even if it was just a dream)

I saw a cat and rabbit duke it out, no holds barred style, totally YouTube worthy kind of fight.

The cat pounced on the rabbit but the rabbit was no meek animal as it wrestled and swiped the cat off. The rabbit managed to continually roll and maneuver off the cat.

All of us watching were actually cheering loudly with each successive sequence of pounce-wrestle-swipes-disengage
Finally the cat landed the killing blow - on one swift pounce, its fangs found the rabbit's throat and it ripped out the rabbits windpipe. The cat rolled to the side, with the windpipe dangling out of his mouth. The fight was over. There was a collective 'ohhhhhh' when this happened.
Then I woke up. And felt a pang of regret for not videoing down that epic fight. Then realized it was just a dream.

[Dream] Snowfall, Dogs and Waterproof Cards

I was with this primary school friend, J. He was this short fat guy that I used to be friends with. Anyway, I was just walking with him down the streets and we walked into a coffeeshop. Then we walked out. Then we heard some noises - like some people were fighting. I got a bit anxious so I walked further away. Then I saw someone running out of the coffeeshop holding a chair in his hand.

We were suddenly back to walking on the street. Not near the coffeeshop anymore, just on the street. It suddenly became cold, like un-Singapore cold. Like 10 degrees Celsius or lower kind of cold. I looked around wondering what was happening. Suddenly, it began snowing!! Flakes of snow floated down to the ground like scenes made in dreams (ha ha. get the joke?). I felt really happy. Singapore is finally snowing! My lifelong dream has come true! (I did it again)

I sent a text message to Szehong to ask her to come out to play with me in the snow, as I sit down under shelter comfortably and very contently watch the snow fall. Blissful...

---

There was a dog next to me. I don't know whose, maybe a stray. It had just tried to run past me but its leash got against my bag so it got stuck, then it just hovered around. I slung my basketball (which was in a sling) over my shoulder to adjust it, and I think the action looked like I was tossing it for the dog, so it SPRINTED off into the snow expecting the ball to sail through the air for him to retrieve.

Instead, the ball just thudded next to me, and I felt bad for deceiving the dog. But in that swinging motion, the basketball sling broke.

Then a group of guys came over and asked me accusingly 'You broke the sling??!', with the insinuation that I was going to have to replace it. I recall thinking 'wtf, I bought this sling in the first place, so if anyone is upset it should be me!'

Then they asked to borrow my basketball. I was reluctant to lend it to them. Then they asked to borrow my poker cards. The moment I said ok, they rushed to open a square table out in the snow and laid it out to prepare for the card playing. (I know, it makes no sense, but this was the dream)

Then I said 'Oi! my cards are not waterproof! Don't play in the snow! You all damn gambling kings sia!'

---

Then I woke up. The dream was over, but the exhilaration from having snow was still there. I lay in bed with a smile on my face for a few moments, and tried to remember the jubilee I felt when I first saw the snow and hold it in my mind for as long as I could.

[Dream] Neverending Stairs, Public Defaecation & Human Trafficking

My dreams are usually incoherent, jumpy, and disjointed (are these 3 actually synonyms? oops). However, the dream I had last night was surprisingly coherent and continuous. What made it more amazing was that I actually woke up halfway, went to the bathroom, went back to sleep and slipped right back into it.

It started out with a job interview I was going for. I had the address on hand but I had no idea how to get there, so I was using Maps to navigate, as I very often did so in the US. (I was in Singapore in the dream, as I realized at the end) I reached this school-like building (maybe it was a school, I can't remember) and started climbing up the stairs for some reason.

I reached the 7th floor (Yes, I remember distinctly it was the 7th, not the 6th or the 8th), and continued climbing the stairs. The weird thing was, after the 7th floor, the stairs started going downwards instead of up, so eventually I ended up back at the bottom. It was something like those neverending staircase illusions, just that it wasn't neverending - it brought me up and then back down.

I asked for directions several times, and the people I asked all said 'oh, just show your map to any truck driver, he'll know the place', because apparently the location of the job interview was quite obscure and normal people can't find it but truck drivers always go there so they know.

At this point, I believe I woke up to pee, but I really can't remember. It's like, when a dream becomes fused, you don't really remember where the beginning or the end was. It all becomes continuous.

---

I was making my way to the interview location, and I reached this small shop, and needed the toilet to shit. I told the storekeeper, who was an old man, and he said go ahead. I looked down and saw a toilet bowl right there in the open, and somehow for some weird reason, I didn't hesitate at all and I just pulled my pants down and sat on the toilet bowl right there in the open, and felt no shame whatsoever. WEIRD.

---

I arrived at the building of the interview finally, and some guards or something came down to escort me up the building. Then somehow I suddenly had a companion (I can't remember who, one of my friends) and she was with me too, going for the interview. We went all the way up to the HQ, and we were seated.

Then this person told us that he's passing us the newest model of the mobile phone, and we were to test it. He handed over this block of plastic to my friend, and when it became clearer I saw it was some old walkie talkie. At that point I started to realize it was all a sham.

My friend was told to press a button every time a light came on, otherwise she would be shocked by a little electric current. This is exactly like what I'm reading about in my Learning and Conditioning module!

After some time, we realized we were being held captive, and would be used as slaves for this experiment.

---

It is with great pity that I CAN'T REMEMBER what happened next, but I distinctly recall it was the most exciting - somehow, someway, I managed to escape from the place! It involved me outsmarting the guards or something but I really can't remember.

Then I went to meet Weiqin because we were supposed to go out I think. She said she needed to find her dad regarding something, and when I followed her back to the building I was at before, I realized her dad was the boss of that company!!

Me: "Weiqin, do you know what your dad does for work?"

Qin: "No I don't know I never asked, what?"

Me: "Nevermind, it's better not to know."

And she somehow didn't pester me and left it as that.

Now the thing is her dad still doesn't know that I had escaped yet, so when we walked up to him I saw a flash of recognition and surprise cross his eyes but he quickly suppressed and hid it as he spoke to Weiqin. We were asking for permission to go out of town or something, and he told us we had to rent a car so we could drive out.

The whole conversation was intense as I wasn't sure what he would do - on one hand he wanted to recapture me but I think he wanted to hide the nature of his job from weiqin so he didn't do so.

The dream ended with us walking off, and she was asking if I was sure I wanted to drive out of town, as it may be inconvenient for me to get back later. I then responded with something like 'Aiya, out of town is only like, to Hougang or something right? That's alright I can go home from there'

This made little sense but ok, dreams don't usually make sense. And yup that's all. I had a second vivid, long dream but I totally forgot that because I was exerting all my memory cells to remember this one.

[Dream] Taxi Rides and Tricycle Cabs

Some of you may know that I have some really wacky dreams. They can be absolutely bizarre and sometimes quite funny. I used to keep a dreams blog, some of them are really quite funny you can have a read: http://alanzdreams.blogspot.com/

Anyway, I only blogged it if I could remember it - and most of the time I don't remember my dreams, just like most of us. However, sometimes it is so vivid that I wake up with a start and think 'I HAVE to blog about this'. This morning was one of those times.
